What is Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement?

Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement is a therapy that corrects hormonal imbalances within your body. Free-flowing, unbound levels of estrogen(s), progesterone, testosterone, thyroid and adrenal function are measured in your saliva. This is the most sensitive and accurate method of measuring your many hormone levels.

How is Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement different from the hormones I’m currently being prescribed?

Traditional hormones used in western medicine are synthetic. They are made from substances that have been shown to cause more problems, as in the case with premarin (made from horse urine). The body reacts with side effects and can further be damaged by synthetic hormones, potentially even being cancer causing. Bio-Identical hormones are made from natural ingredients that have the exact same chemical structure as those found in the human body. Hence the name “Bio-Identical.”

How does the process work?

After an in depth consultation, history and physical with Dr. Dadurian, you will be sent home with instructions on how to perform the saliva test in the comfort of your own home. In a few weeks you will return for a follow up. The doctor will review your results with you and prescribe any necessary bio-identical hormones. In 3-6 months you will be scheduled for another follow-up to review your progress and further track your hormonal levels.

What lab reads my results?

We work closely with a compounding pharmacy called Universal Arts who specializes in interpretation and treatment of hormonal imbalances. They employ several doctors that work closely with Dr. Dadurian to ensure you are receiving the best possible course of therapy.

Does insurance cover this test and/or therapy?

Insurance does not cover the initial appointment with the doctor. You may, however, submit receipts of the saliva test and any prescribed medications for reimbursement from your insurance carrier if you have out-of-network benefits.
