Dysport® is like Xeomin® yet another alternative to Botox®. Dysport® was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2009 for frown lines and forehead wrinkles, about 7 years after Botox’s appearance on the market. Just like Botox® and Xeomin® it is also an injectable form of Botulinum toxin A and as such relaxes the muscles the form undesirable wrinkles on the face, also called “dynamic” lines. The effects of Dysport® last on average 3 to 4 months. There is a difference to Botox® and Xeomin® in the the onset of action. With Dysport® you see results much faster then with Botox® or Xeomin®. Where Botox® takes 3 to 10 days to take full effect, Dysport® kicks in within 1 to 3 days. This makes it a better choice for patients who have an event within a few days after injection, and do not want to wait a week or so for the end result of Botox®.
Another similarity is the cost of all three neurotoxins. Dysport® is injected just like the other two in liquid form through the smallest possible needle , 32 gauge. It is a very quick procedures that takes about 10-15 minutes with only minimal discomfort . Patients describe it as a stinging sensation.
While most people do not require any anesthesia, we can provide topical anesthetic cream or icing before and after injections for patients who are more sensitive to pain. Choosing the neurotoxin that is best suited for you is imperative. During your free consultation with Dr. Dadurian the best option for you is established according to your medical history and the anatomy of your face. For example, since Dysport tends to diffuse a little more then Botox® and Xeomin®,
Dr. Dadurian prefers to use Botox® or Xeomin® on the forehead in patients with low eyebrows or heavy eyelids as she feels that Dysport® tends to drop the brows a little more than Botox® or Xeomin®.
